The Bachelor Finalists: Bevin and Tessa

On The Bachelor, Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin brought the three remaining contestants -- Bevin, Danielle and Tessa - to Hawaii for the overnight dates. All three accepted his invitation to the fantasy suite. The previews showed Tessa pretending to be reluctant, but the way they edited the show itself, she readily agreed to it. Andy had a friend fly in to help him make his decision. In the end, he narrowed his choice to two: Bevin and Tessa. Danielle did not receive a rose. Next week, they are not having a reunion show, typically entitled The Bachelor, The Women Tell All special episode and featuring a surprise appearance by The Bachelor -- the season finale airs next week. I guess they had to fit in all the episodes before Memorial Day. I'm going with Tessa all the way to win the final rose.

Bachelor Final Three: Bevin, Danielle and Tessa

At the beginning of this week's episode, The Bachelor Andy Baldwin has narrowed down his choices to four: Amber Alchalabi, Bevin Powers, Danielle Imwalle and Tessa Horst. It's time for the hometown dates. One dorky bachelor, four nutcase women, what could go wrong?

Bevin is up first. We know that Bevin is keeping a secret from Andy - she is divorced. She kept the secret surprisingly long on the show. The producers like to cast a virgin and a divorcee, and typically, the women wait all of thirty seconds at the first night's cocktail party to make their status known. This season, both Bevin and the suspected virgin kept their identities secret much longer than usual.

Bevin meets Andy at a scenic waterfall near Seattle. In all four hometown dates, Andy squeals like a pig when he first sees the women. He is Mr. Monotone 24/7 except when he first sees a woman, when he instantly squeals with delight in a very feminine way. Andy asks Bevin if she's taken other boys to the waterfall, and she lies to his face, denying it. Bevin tells Andy about the divorce, and his poker face isn't very good -- you can see he doesn't like this news. Bevin's family seems relieved that Andy is a lot more normal than the loser guys Bevin has brought home before. Her dad is emotional and cries a little too much.

Next up is Danielle in Connecticut. We learn for the 10,000th time that Danielle had a college boyfriend years ago who died while they were in bed together. No explanation is provided for exactly what they were doing at the time. Other than being way too hung up on the ex-boyfriend's death, Danielle seems pretty normal. She still lives at home, presumably to help her grieving process over the dead boyfriend. Andy always says that Danielle is the most invested in him. I'm not sure what that means, but I know I don't like it, but at the same time it doesn't seem true because she doesn't seem that invested in Andy, at least not compared to desperados like Bevin. Danielle's dad lets us know that he's the provider and protector, then he plays the drums in the basement, followed by the mom and sister belly dancing with Andy. Perhaps Andy enjoyed the belly dancing a little too much because Danielle warned him to "stay away from my sister." At least he was hitting on the sister and not her mom.

Next up is Tessa in Washington D.C. The date began with Andy's usual squealing followed by a snowball fight that looked a little forced. I can almost see the producers behind the camera telling them to do that. Each season, one of the families plays the role of interrogators to The Bachelor, and Tessa's family and friends followed that script this season. Samantha, Tessa's friend from Denver, seemed determined to break the two up with her obnoxious questioning. Great friend she is. Washing dishes with the dad, Andy awkwardly asks if Tessa has brought many other guys home to meet the family. Smooth line.

Next up is the highlight of the show -- Andy's visit to Sugar Land, Texas to see Amber. We know from the previews that her family situation is unstable. Her parents apparently are not in the picture, so she begs an aunt to meet Andy. The aunt says no, so Andy has an awkward dinner in the Tri Delt house with Amber, her dumb roommate and the dog that goes number one on the carpet. Eventually, the aunt shows up unannounced and relieves the tension somewhat.

At the rose ceremony, Andy rejected Amber. She cried pretty hard, and he blamed it on their age difference. She reminded him that he told her in the hot tub that her age didn't matter, but I think we all know he would say anything in the hot tub to try to get some action.

Next week, the three women visit him in Hawaii. The previews show Tessa pretending to have to think about his invitation to the fantasy suite. That is something else that happens every season. They all go to the fantasy suite, but one of them pretends to be unsure about it. I think Tessa will accept the invitation, if you know what I mean. No question that Bevin will be all over the fantasy suite.

Beverly Hills 90210 Update

There's been lots of action from the Beverly Hills 90210 gang lately. First, Pepsi airs a commercial mocking the gang. Then, the Oxygen network -- I'm not sure what that is -- renewed Donna Martin Tori Spelling's reality show called Tori and Dean: Inn Love. Third, Dylan McKay, a/k/a Luke Perry, isn't aging so well. And last, the gang had a reunion at the Peach Pit After Dark set of Dancing With The Stars, where Steve Sanders Ian Ziering is lighting up the dance floor with his twinkle toes.

More Reality TV on TV

Reality TV programming is only going to increase its presence on television. TV stars with massive egos and salaries? Overpaid writers who threaten to go on strike if they're not paid even more? Those economics don't compare to finding some unknown idiots willing to go on tv for almost nothing and make fools of themselves. Story here.

Principal Demoted for Allowing Amber on The Bachelor

A Sugar Land, Texas principal, Tammie Carpenter of Colony Bend Elementary School, has been demoted and reassigned for giving fourth grade teacher Amber Alchalabi time off to compete on The Bachelor. Amber's fate is unclear.

From the preview for next week's episode, it appears that Amber has family issues in addition to problems at work. It showed Amber on her hometown date with Andy Baldwin. The idea of the hometown dates is, obviously, for The Bachelor to meet the girls' parents, but the preview shows Amber reacting to what we assume is her mother telling her she won't see her on the hometown date.

The Bachelor Update

On the last episode of The Bachelor, An Officer and a Gentleman, Andy Baldwin had group dates with two groups of seven and an individual date with Stephanie, the strange and cocky first impression rose girl.

The first group date began with mechanical bull riding. Andy confided in the camera that all that bull riding was really turning him on. After the mechanical bull, he took the girls to try on new cocktail dresses, followed by a dip in the hot tub. All part of every guy's standard first date package. Bevin is this season's older, desperate girl (she claims to be 28, which means she's probably 33). She comes across as a little slutty too. She made out with Andy in the pool.

The next group date was a weird mini-triathlon at a hotel pool. Two of the more bimbo looking ones refused to get their platinum hair wet. The majority of these girls seem to have no athletic ability at all.

At the ladies' house, the girls watched the first impression rose girl try on slutty dresses. Then, she had her one on one date with Andy on the yacht where he stays. The evening ended with them making out in the yacht hot tub and him giving her another rose, making her safe from elimination this week.

At the rose ceremony, there weren't any big surprises, and none of the rejects melted down too badly.

Oprah Lets Us Feel Good While Watching Reality TV

Oprah Winfrey is seeking to cash in on the popularity of reality television by creating two new reality shows designed to make us feel good about ourselves.
Now she is developing two primetime reality series for ABC. The first one, "Oprah Winfrey's The Big Give," is a lightly competitive show in which contestants vie for the chance to do something really big for others. Sort of "Survivor" meets "Touched by an Angel." In the second series, tentatively titled "Your Money or Your Life," a family in trouble is swarmed with help--therapy help, decorator help, skin-care help, money help, you name it help--in a crash course of positive, do-gooder meddling that will result, it is hoped, in a happier, healthier family and a 22 share. It's sort of "Dr. Phil" meets "Extreme Makeover," with a little bit of the Iraq surge mentality mixed in. When Oprah does something, she does it big.

Only a fool would bet against the success of these shows. Oprah did not get immensely rich by accident. She knows what people like to watch. More important, she knows what people like to feel when they watch. We want to feel good, about ourselves and our neighbors.

The Bachelor Premiere

The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman began this week. How cheesy is that subtitle? Definitely not shooting to attract the male viewers with that.

Andy Baldwin has strange teeth and is a little awkward, not to mention that he drives a DeLorean or some such car with doors that open vertically, but he grows on you a bit as he drinks more and loosens up. The bachelorettes this season are nothing to write home about. Most of them are not that attractive, and a fair number of them are weird and/or slutty.

For some reason, the opening night cocktail party, where The Bachelor has a short time to narrow down the field, has turned into some sort of freakish drunken talent show. One girl, who admitted she wasn't that hot, decided that Andy might like to hear her sing the National Anthem. Another did gymnastics. One showed him her scars. The one with the really slutty dress wriggled on the floor dancing. And the one with the really big bug eyes who kept saying Andy was like her male mirror image did pushups with him before being axed. One of the many Southern girls had a few too many and fell off the couch.

One of the least attractive girls, Lindsay, walked off immediately after Andy didn't give her a rose and started mouthing off outside, saying Andy is short and has bad teeth. Classic.

The Sports Gal has her wrap-up here.

The Hills Finale

On the season finale of The Hills, Heidi Montag moved out of Lauren Conrad's apartment to move in with the manipulative loser Spencer Pratt. Brody Jenner was giving Spencer a hard time about moving in with Heidi, equating it with marriage, and Spencer said he'd still be a player and that Brody could call him on his separate "homeboy phone." He keeps one phone for girls to call and another for his homeboys. Heidi has lost all ability to think for herself, instead doing whatever Spencer tells her to do. Where are her friends and family to tell her to have some self-respect?

Heidi and Lauren are no longer friends. Heidi blew off the reunion show because a) Spencer wasn't invited to be on it and b) she had implants inserted instead. The MTV producers must be fools because it would make for great tv to have Spencer there. I'm sure he manipulated Heidi into not going, somehow blaming it on Lauren in the process.

Trump Wins Hair Match at Wrestlemania

One of the world’s most famous ’do’s — considered by many to be a fashion don’t — remains intact after its owner, Donald Trump, prevailed in Sunday night’s “hair match” at Wrestlemania.

Trump trumped World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon in the “Battle of the Billionaires” at the WWE’s largest annual pay-per-view event. After the real estate mogul and reality TV star triumphed, he gleefully took the shears to Mr. McMahon’s head.

Trump and McMahon didn’t actually battle it out in the ring, but instead had WWE wrestlers representing them grapple to see who would go bald. The winner, Trump’s guy Bobby Lashley, bested McMahon’s chosen wrestler, Umaga.

It's a hairstyle for males characterized by grown-out, swept-aside, forehead-concealing bangs, and thanks to the MTV show "Two-A-Days," it's getting some attention.

Several Hoover High football players on both seasons of the reality TV show sported the style, begging the question from some national viewers: Do most white guys in Alabama have their hair cut like the guys on "Two-A-Days?"

Each man will have a designated wrestler (Bobby Lashley for Trump and "The Samoan Bulldozer" Umaga for McMahon) fight on his behalf. The OC Series Finale and Spinoff

How great was the O.C. Series Finale? It was so bittersweet. I laughed. I cried and I prayed for a miracle that there will be some sort of spinoff. They certainly left it so that it will be easy to do that. I say it a lot but thank goodness for DVR. I had to rewind so that I could see the final scenes again. I boohooed when they showed Summer and Seth getting married. (Adam was looking pretty hot, might I add). I cried when they showed Julie getting her college degree AND when they showed Frank and Bullet and Caitlin in the audience. But I thought the end scene with Ryan was a little forced. He doesn't dress up well at all. It just looked awkward and staged.

I will keep my fingers crossed that a spinoff will be spinning our way, preferably with either Seth and Summer or Caitlin, The Bullet and Julie. or maybe even Ryan and Taylor but I don't think they have enough staying power for their own show.

“At WrestleMania, if my guy loses, you can shave my head,” said the fired-up billionaire. “But if your guy loses, I’m going to shave your head!”

Would Trump look better as is or with a shaved head?

Here is an interview with Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race, which starts this Sunday. Excerpt:

Keoghan:
Well, there are a lot of people who have already expressed that they are upset about them being in there. I think there would be more of an outcry if we left them out. Either way, we knew it was going to create some kind of controversy, or at least get a reaction from people. They had to be there. You can imagine that they elicit that same kind of reaction not just from fans, but from people who are actually in the race. People talk about them and what they think from the get-go.

The producers of Big Brother (England's version) are planning to lock up celebrity drug addicts in a new shock TV reality show called Rock Stars in Rehab.

Jackass Bam Margera to Marry on MTV

Jackass star Bam Margera stars in Bam's Unholy Union on MTV. His fiancee, Missy Rothstein, seems relatively normal for someone who would marry Bam. They have known each other for many years in Pennsylvania. The highlight of the first episode was Bam french kissing his fiancee's mother and sister at their engagement party.

Survivor Fiji Starts Thursday

Big Brother Will Return This Summer

CBS has ordered another installment of Big Brother for this summer.

Ilan Hall Wins Top Chef

Ilan Hall beat Marcel Vigneron in the season finale of Top Chef 2. Marcel has a massive ego and tried to be more "cutting edge," e.g., using foams a la Charlie Trotter, but his effort fell short.

CBS Yanks Armed & Famous; VH1 Picks It Up

Stories here and here. I'm not surprised it's not doing well. There is a limit to the audience that the likes of Erik Estrada, Wee Man, Jack Osbourne, etc. can draw.

Whining About Economic Segregation on The O.C.

Whining about people living "class-bound lives in class-bound places" as it relates to The O.C. Seriously, it's just a TV show.

Maui Fever

Check out my favorite quote from tonight on my other blog..NolaMom
I'm too tired to write about it twice.

twentyfourseven Cancelled

MTV gave twentyfourseven the ax to make room for Maui Fever, a great new show.

Beverly Hills 90210 Season 2 on DVD

Posh Spice and Beckham to Star in Reality Show?

I enjoy reality tv as much as the next guy, but I'm not too interested in David and Victoria Beckham, a/k/a Posh Spice. They are set to star in a new reality show.

Hell's Kitchen to Replace The O.C.

The fools at Fox who cancelled The O.C. are replacing it on Thursdays with Hell's Kitchen. There's no way Hell's Kitchen will have better ratings than The O.C.

The Hills

Too funny. I am slow to post. I just watched it on DVR yesterday but oh my gosh. I'll have to watch it again. LC is still so pretty and I actually kind of like Brody-the guy she was set up with. But stop it with the I like your smile thing. The first time was cute then it just was cheesy. That's probably his shtick with all the girls. Sorry LC, he doesn't like your straight smile more than the next one.

My favorite part HAD to be when Heidi made Spence sweat it out a little bit and let him think she was pregnant. All to see how much the loser playa liked her. Well, if you didn't watch it, he's on Team Heidi. When he found out she was just messing with him, he was pissed and well he should be. But then he sticks around. If he was any kind of man he would have ditched her right there for playing the stupid game.

It's going to be a good season. I'm glad it's only just begun.

Maui Residents Object to "Maui Fever"

Uptight Maui residents are unhappy with Maui Fever's portrayal of Hawaii. They seem surprised that a reality tv show would attract degenerates rather than scholars.

Carey from The Apprentice Blasts Trump

Recently fired Apprentice candidate Carey Sherrell slammed Donald Trump in an online interview, suggesting that The Donald is racist and homophobic.

Bachelor Trades in Winner for Runner-Up

The Bachelor's Prince Lorenzo Borghese has confirmed what I reported some time ago that he has broken up with winner Jennifer Wilson. Rumor has it he is now dating runner-up Sadie Murray. Stories here and here.

The Apprentice is Back

Donald Trump's The Apprentice is back with a new season filmed in Los Angeles. Somehow seeing The Donald wearing sunglasses, zipping around among the palm trees and sunlight in a convertible and, gasp, not wearing a tie isn't the same as seeing him among the skyscrapers in Manhattan. He looks and seems awkward in L.A. Nevertheless, it looks like it will be a good season. The big twist this season, as I previously reported, is that the losing team will live in two large tents in the yard outside the mansion where the winning team stays.

by the idea of such menial work, and the editing made him look like a terrible salesman who could not The show began with Trump instructing the candidates to build a tent. Tim tried to take charge, yelling loudly in a shrill voice. Martin does not seem like the type who enjoys manual labor and ended up standing on a rock and doing essentially nothing. Tim and Heidi were selected project managers. The weekly tasks are typically determined by product placement, but this week, the competition was a simple car wash. Tim immediately disappeared to go to Kinko's and make letter-sized copies of promotional ads. That may work in New York where you can hand out flyers to walkers on the street, but this is L.A. and you're trying to lure drivers into a car wash. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that big signs will work better for this. Heidi's team seemed to be a lot more hands on and hard working. Martin seemed frazzled, and the editing made it look like he couldn't upsell anyone to the more expensive detailing services.

In the end, Heidi's team won, though not by much. Her team got to stay in the mansion, though they all had to sleep in one round room. They lounge around the pool sipping cocktails and hot tubbed at night. Meanwhile, the losing team slept in the tents, showered in portable showers, used port-a-potties, etc. The producers seem to be going for an Apprentice meets Survivor feel. Taking these high strung eager beavers and forcing them to sleep outside and not have adequate mirror and makeup space is great.

In the board room, the winning project manager joins Donald and Ivanka. Surprisingly, Heidi kept opening her piehole and spouting off as if she were George or some long time and respected employee of Trump's. It's bad enough when a former winner like Bill Rancic is in the board room and tries to pretend that he's somebody, but it's even worse when a week one contestant tries to pretend she's The Donald. In the end, it was project manager Tim and prima donna Martin standing, and Trump fired Martin.

Eric Estrada Shouts Obscenities at Man Who Called Him Emilio Estevez

This story cracked me up for some reason. Eric Estrada, a/k/a Ponch, got into an expletive-laden argument with a crime victim who mistakenly called him Emilio Estevez during the filming of the goofy reality show Armed & Famous.

Fox Pulls the Plug on The O.C.

I am sad to report that the idiots who run the Fox network have pulled the plug on one of the best shows on tv, The O.C. The show was just starting to recover momentum after last year's disappointing season, which focused too much on not-the-sharpest-knife-in-the-drawer Marissa Cooper. Newsflash to the empty suits in management at Fox - if you want to save the show, all you have to do is put it on another night. Trying to force it on Thursday night against some stiff competition like The Office, Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy is suicide. Move it to another night in place of one of your mindless shows, and it will do fine in the ratings. The irony is that Mischa Barton is probably rejoicing, thinking that the show couldn't survive without her, when the truth is the story line last year that focused so heavily on her is what drove the audience away.

twentyfourseven: Prom Kings' Record Deal

On twentyfourseven, Greg, Chris and Whitman have a meeting with Ron Fair of Geffen Records. Fair tells them he wants The Prom Kings to record a single. On the way out of the meeting, Chris squeals like a dork, and Greg is irritated that he's celebrating like a girl within sight of the record company guys. Cipes and Ty walk on the beach, and Cipes is jealous of The Prom Kings' success. Ty has to tell him he needs to be happy for them. Cipes dogs The Prom Kings for being all into the rock 'n' roll thing that he doesn't think is as good as whatever drugged out crap he plays.

The guys give Whitman a hard time for not immediately ending things with Shayne Lamas because she was spotted with her ex-boyfriend. He meets her at a lunch spot to end things. Too bad because I'm a big Lorenzo Lamas fan, and I presume he won't be on the show any more.

Matt the actor is in the movie Surf School, and the guys all go to the premiere. The movie looks terrible, and Matt seems embarrassed by it, especially when his loser friends all give him a hard time about how lame it is. Everyone leaves the bar where they celebrate after the premiere except Chris, who gets so drunk that he has to call Greg and have Greg come carry him out of the bar and take him home.

At the end, Geffen decides to give The Prom Kings a record deal. Everyone celebrates except Chris, who walks out alone and seeks treatment for drinking too much. I give him 12-16 hours of sobriety tops.

Season Finale of Breaking Bonaduce

The season finale of Danny Bonaduce's Breaking Bonaduce was a bit of a snoozer because Danny did not have any of his frequent meltdowns. He does some community service, feeding the less fortunate, at one point with a cafeteria hair net on his head. He talks to a sober friend about his upcoming baptism, and the friend is completely unsupportive of religion. Danny's doctor tells him he may be at increased risk of having a stroke or heart attack. The baptism was a full dunk in a pool.
