Bachelorette Jen Schefft's Advice: Don't Settle
Bachelorette Jen Schefft, former fiancee of The Bachelor Andrew Firestone, has some romantic advice for single women: don't settle. "Settling means being in a relationship that's anything less than you deserve," says the 30-year-old author of Better Single Than Sorry: A No-Regrets Guide to Loving Yourself and Never Settling. "It's being in a relationship that's not exactly right for the sake of being in a relationship."Regarding her engagement to Firestone, she said,
It wasn't the right fit for sure. I gave up my life. It was something I didn't give a lot of thought to. Just because someone is rich or an heir to this tire fortune doesn't make it a perfect relationship. Some women would have stayed, but no amount of money or status is going to make you happy.

Reunited: The Real World Vegas
The original Real World Las Vegas season was, depending on your point of view, either the best or the worst season in Real World history. It was a defining season in which cast members focused less on incessant whining about perceived problems in the house and more on having a good time partying and hooking up.On Reunited: The Real World Vegas, the dynamics have changed since the original season. Originally, Frank was the nice guy who fell for Trishelle within minutes of meeting her, only to be disillusioned moments later when he discovered she was a slut. Now, the new Frank is much more relaxed and wants only to drink a ton and sleep with as many girls as possible. He and Steven seem awfully tight, so much so that I'm half expecting the two of them to end up in bed together some night if Frank can't get any action from the ladies.
On an unrelated note, let me give some unsolicited advice to the Maloof brothers, owners of The Palms. Banning Steven from the pool was asinine. What did he do? He may have thrown some ice at someone and then thrown her into the pool? Who cares? This is supposed to be Vegas, baby, not a Holidome in Peoria. Man up, Maloof brothers, and let Steven and Frank have fun together.
Trishelle is now bleach blonde and considers herself to be an "actress." She demonstrated for the girls how she learned to pole dance for her latest role. This was at the post-marriage, post-babies bachelorette party she threw for Brynn, who has gone from a dysfunctional go-go dancer to a dental hygienist wife and mother. Trishelle's party for her was awkward and forced, with far too many male strippers involved.
Alton, Irulan and Arissa have some major issues. During the original season, Irulan was in an "open relationship" and took advantage of that time to hook up with Alton. Apparently, after the show, Alton and Irulan dated for three years and were also close to Arissa until something happened in a bathroom. Arissa claims that Alton tried to kiss her, but he denies it, bringing to mind his bragging about a threesome and subsequent denial of it during the original season.
On the same night as Trishelle's bachelorette party for Brynn, the guys throw a bachelor party for Brynn's husband Austin in another suite -- the hardwood suite. Girls are there when the guys arrive, but it turns out they just play the guys in a lame game of basketball and leave. Later that night, Frank manages, separately, to make both Irulan and Arissa lose their minds and storm out of the suite for completely overblown reasons.

Sunset Tan: Countdown to Bankruptcy
I assume that Sunset Tan is a privately held company, otherwise I would sell its stock short in a second. What a bunch of morons at this company, from top to bottom. The E! show by the same name follows around a bunch of weird people who work in a tanning salon. Not surprisingly, these aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. One employee, Erin, while spraying a nude Jose Canseco's ex-wife with tanning spray, thinks it's okay to ask her how much she paid for her home and who did her breast implants. Then, the dumber of the two owners, Jeff Bozz, has all the employees, some of whom are young, over for a party and decides to skinny dip in front of everyone. Some of the employees join in, while others are turned off. Britney Spears comes in for a tan, looking like the trailer trash girl that she is. The two ditzy blonde employees, known as the Olly Girls for some witty reason -- I think because their first names are Molly and Polly or something similar -- are there for only one reason, to meet celebrities, but the best they've done so far is Chris Kattan. As dumb as the Olly Girls are, they were able to come up with a play on words with Kattan's name and the word "tan." The two owners take Nick, apparently the only employee in the entire organization with half a brain, to Las Vegas and strongly imply that they'll give him a big promotion to run the new Las Vegas tanning booth at The Palms if he'll just dump his girlfriend. Erin visits her hometown in Oklahoma to see an ex-boyfriend. He tells her he loves her and wants to make out with her and that, oh by the way, he's also engaged to someone else.Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Gene Simmons: Family Jewels Renewed for Third Season
A&E has said yes to a third season of "Gene Simmons: Family Jewels," upping its order to 24 half-hours from last season's 20. The decision was an easy one: "Jewels" is A&E's second highest rated series ever in adults 18-49 and 25-54, behind only "Dog the Bounty Hunter." "Jewels" did even better in the second season than the first, leaping by 15% in total viewers to a 1.5 million average and climbing by 11% in adults 18-49 and by 8% in 25-54.Woman Sues Jack Osbourne over Armed and Famous Reality Show
A woman whose home was mistakenly raided by police during the filming of CBS reality show Armed & Famous is seeking $1 million in damages in a lawsuit recently filed in federal court. "This is not a dime to CBS," the plaintiff's Indianapolis civil rights attorney Michael Sutherlin said. "If they want to make a circus of police shows, they ought to be held accountable." The lawsuit, filed last week in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, in Indianapolis, lists as defendants celebrity cop Jack Osbourne, Muncie officer Michael Edwards, Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle, Mayor Dan Canan, CBS Broadcasting Inc., and production company Good TV Inc. It alleges that around 12:30 a.m. Dec. 12, Muncie police officers -- including SWAT team members and Osbourne -- entered Lyndsay Clements's home in the 800 block of West Main Street under the belief that she was harboring a fugitive. They handcuffed Clements in her nightgown for 30 minutes, according to Sutherlin, and ransacked her apartment while production crews filmed the activity.Monday, June 4, 2007

The Bachelor Finalists: Bevin and Tessa
On The Bachelor, Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin brought the three remaining contestants -- Bevin, Danielle and Tessa - to Hawaii for the overnight dates. All three accepted his invitation to the fantasy suite. The previews showed Tessa pretending to be reluctant, but the way they edited the show itself, she readily agreed to it. Andy had a friend fly in to help him make his decision. In the end, he narrowed his choice to two: Bevin and Tessa. Danielle did not receive a rose. Next week, they are not having a reunion show, typically entitled The Bachelor, The Women Tell All special episode and featuring a surprise appearance by The Bachelor -- the season finale airs next week. I guess they had to fit in all the episodes before Memorial Day. I'm going with Tessa all the way to win the final rose.Wednesday, May 9, 2007
Bachelor Final Three: Bevin, Danielle and Tessa
At the beginning of this week's episode, The Bachelor Andy Baldwin has narrowed down his choices to four: Amber Alchalabi, Bevin Powers, Danielle Imwalle and Tessa Horst. It's time for the hometown dates. One dorky bachelor, four nutcase women, what could go wrong?Bevin is up first. We know that Bevin is keeping a secret from Andy - she is divorced. She kept the secret surprisingly long on the show. The producers like to cast a virgin and a divorcee, and typically, the women wait all of thirty seconds at the first night's cocktail party to make their status known. This season, both Bevin and the suspected virgin kept their identities secret much longer than usual.
Bevin meets Andy at a scenic waterfall near Seattle. In all four hometown dates, Andy squeals like a pig when he first sees the women. He is Mr. Monotone 24/7 except when he first sees a woman, when he instantly squeals with delight in a very feminine way. Andy asks Bevin if she's taken other boys to the waterfall, and she lies to his face, denying it. Bevin tells Andy about the divorce, and his poker face isn't very good -- you can see he doesn't like this news. Bevin's family seems relieved that Andy is a lot more normal than the loser guys Bevin has brought home before. Her dad is emotional and cries a little too much.
Next up is Danielle in Connecticut. We learn for the 10,000th time that Danielle had a college boyfriend years ago who died while they were in bed together. No explanation is provided for exactly what they were doing at the time. Other than being way too hung up on the ex-boyfriend's death, Danielle seems pretty normal. She still lives at home, presumably to help her grieving process over the dead boyfriend. Andy always says that Danielle is the most invested in him. I'm not sure what that means, but I know I don't like it, but at the same time it doesn't seem true because she doesn't seem that invested in Andy, at least not compared to desperados like Bevin. Danielle's dad lets us know that he's the provider and protector, then he plays the drums in the basement, followed by the mom and sister belly dancing with Andy. Perhaps Andy enjoyed the belly dancing a little too much because Danielle warned him to "stay away from my sister." At least he was hitting on the sister and not her mom.
Next up is Tessa in Washington D.C. The date began with Andy's usual squealing followed by a snowball fight that looked a little forced. I can almost see the producers behind the camera telling them to do that. Each season, one of the families plays the role of interrogators to The Bachelor, and Tessa's family and friends followed that script this season. Samantha, Tessa's friend from Denver, seemed determined to break the two up with her obnoxious questioning. Great friend she is. Washing dishes with the dad, Andy awkwardly asks if Tessa has brought many other guys home to meet the family. Smooth line.
Next up is the highlight of the show -- Andy's visit to Sugar Land, Texas to see Amber. We know from the previews that her family situation is unstable. Her parents apparently are not in the picture, so she begs an aunt to meet Andy. The aunt says no, so Andy has an awkward dinner in the Tri Delt house with Amber, her dumb roommate and the dog that goes number one on the carpet. Eventually, the aunt shows up unannounced and relieves the tension somewhat.
At the rose ceremony, Andy rejected Amber. She cried pretty hard, and he blamed it on their age difference. She reminded him that he told her in the hot tub that her age didn't matter, but I think we all know he would say anything in the hot tub to try to get some action.
Next week, the three women visit him in Hawaii. The previews show Tessa pretending to have to think about his invitation to the fantasy suite. That is something else that happens every season. They all go to the fantasy suite, but one of them pretends to be unsure about it. I think Tessa will accept the invitation, if you know what I mean. No question that Bevin will be all over the fantasy suite.

Principal Demoted for Allowing Amber on The Bachelor
From the preview for next week's episode, it appears that Amber has family issues in addition to problems at work. It showed Amber on her hometown date with Andy Baldwin. The idea of the hometown dates is, obviously, for The Bachelor to meet the girls' parents, but the preview shows Amber reacting to what we assume is her mother telling her she won't see her on the hometown date.

Hulk Hogan's Marriage on the Rocks?
Hulk Hogan may be a little rusty in the wrestling ring, but he can still slam with the best of 'em, with or without his spandex bodysuit. The bushy mustached wrestler is hitting back at reports that his 20-year-plus union to wife, Linda, is about to become the latest reality show casualty. According to the New York Post, the VH1 staples are "going through a very hard time" and have been tussling over, among other things, how best to raise their tan-orexic daughter Brooke." At one point, they were talking divorce," an insider tells the paper. "It's still precarious." Not so, says Hulk, who assures Us that all is well at home: "I'm happily married, and everything is cool."Friday, April 20, 2007

The Bachelor Update
On the last episode of The Bachelor, An Officer and a Gentleman, Andy Baldwin had group dates with two groups of seven and an individual date with Stephanie, the strange and cocky first impression rose girl. The first group date began with mechanical bull riding. Andy confided in the camera that all that bull riding was really turning him on. After the mechanical bull, he took the girls to try on new cocktail dresses, followed by a dip in the hot tub. All part of every guy's standard first date package. Bevin is this season's older, desperate girl (she claims to be 28, which means she's probably 33). She comes across as a little slutty too. She made out with Andy in the pool.
The next group date was a weird mini-triathlon at a hotel pool. Two of the more bimbo looking ones refused to get their platinum hair wet. The majority of these girls seem to have no athletic ability at all.
At the ladies' house, the girls watched the first impression rose girl try on slutty dresses. Then, she had her one on one date with Andy on the yacht where he stays. The evening ended with them making out in the yacht hot tub and him giving her another rose, making her safe from elimination this week.
At the rose ceremony, there weren't any big surprises, and none of the rejects melted down too badly.
"Work Out" Faces the Death of One of its Trainers
The cast of Work Out faced the unfortunate death of one of its trainers, Doug Blasdell, on camera. Jackie Warner and the staff at Sky Sport & Spa are weird, and Doug seemed like one of the more normal trainers. The latest source of tension is Jackie's relationship with trainer and former The Amazing Race contestant Rebecca Cardon, who will do anything, including switching from straight to gay, for camera time.Oprah Lets Us Feel Good While Watching Reality TV
Oprah Winfrey is seeking to cash in on the popularity of reality television by creating two new reality shows designed to make us feel good about ourselves. Now she is developing two primetime reality series for ABC. The first one, "Oprah Winfrey's The Big Give," is a lightly competitive show in which contestants vie for the chance to do something really big for others. Sort of "Survivor" meets "Touched by an Angel." In the second series, tentatively titled "Your Money or Your Life," a family in trouble is swarmed with help--therapy help, decorator help, skin-care help, money help, you name it help--in a crash course of positive, do-gooder meddling that will result, it is hoped, in a happier, healthier family and a 22 share. It's sort of "Dr. Phil" meets "Extreme Makeover," with a little bit of the Iraq surge mentality mixed in. When Oprah does something, she does it big.
Only a fool would bet against the success of these shows. Oprah did not get immensely rich by accident. She knows what people like to watch. More important, she knows what people like to feel when they watch. We want to feel good, about ourselves and our neighbors.

The Bachelor Premiere
The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman began this week. How cheesy is that subtitle? Definitely not shooting to attract the male viewers with that.Andy Baldwin has strange teeth and is a little awkward, not to mention that he drives a DeLorean or some such car with doors that open vertically, but he grows on you a bit as he drinks more and loosens up. The bachelorettes this season are nothing to write home about. Most of them are not that attractive, and a fair number of them are weird and/or slutty.
For some reason, the opening night cocktail party, where The Bachelor has a short time to narrow down the field, has turned into some sort of freakish drunken talent show. One girl, who admitted she wasn't that hot, decided that Andy might like to hear her sing the National Anthem. Another did gymnastics. One showed him her scars. The one with the really slutty dress wriggled on the floor dancing. And the one with the really big bug eyes who kept saying Andy was like her male mirror image did pushups with him before being axed. One of the many Southern girls had a few too many and fell off the couch.
One of the least attractive girls, Lindsay, walked off immediately after Andy didn't give her a rose and started mouthing off outside, saying Andy is short and has bad teeth. Classic.
The Sports Gal has her wrap-up here.
The Hills Finale
On the season finale of The Hills, Heidi Montag moved out of Lauren Conrad's apartment to move in with the manipulative loser Spencer Pratt. Brody Jenner was giving Spencer a hard time about moving in with Heidi, equating it with marriage, and Spencer said he'd still be a player and that Brody could call him on his separate "homeboy phone." He keeps one phone for girls to call and another for his homeboys. Heidi has lost all ability to think for herself, instead doing whatever Spencer tells her to do. Where are her friends and family to tell her to have some self-respect?Heidi and Lauren are no longer friends. Heidi blew off the reunion show because a) Spencer wasn't invited to be on it and b) she had implants inserted instead. The MTV producers must be fools because it would make for great tv to have Spencer there. I'm sure he manipulated Heidi into not going, somehow blaming it on Lauren in the process.

Trump Wins Hair Match at Wrestlemania
One of the world’s most famous ’do’s — considered by many to be a fashion don’t — remains intact after its owner, Donald Trump, prevailed in Sunday night’s “hair match” at Wrestlemania.Trump trumped World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon in the “Battle of the Billionaires” at the WWE’s largest annual pay-per-view event. After the real estate mogul and reality TV star triumphed, he gleefully took the shears to Mr. McMahon’s head.
Trump and McMahon didn’t actually battle it out in the ring, but instead had WWE wrestlers representing them grapple to see who would go bald. The winner, Trump’s guy Bobby Lashley, bested McMahon’s chosen wrestler, Umaga.

It's a hairstyle for males characterized by grown-out, swept-aside, forehead-concealing bangs, and thanks to the MTV show "Two-A-Days," it's getting some attention.
Several Hoover High football players on both seasons of the reality TV show sported the style, begging the question from some national viewers: Do most white guys in Alabama have their hair cut like the guys on "Two-A-Days?"
